Howland Hall Community Center

"Connecting Hearts, Serving Together."

The Howland Hall Community Center has been an important meeting space in Westport Point for generations.  It has served the uses of the church and the greater Westport Point community for years.  Now, we are working hard to restore and revitalize this space so it can continue to serve our community for many more years ahead.

Restoration and Revitalization Project

For 150 years, the stately white steeple of the Methodist Church has stood at the heart of the

Westport Point Historic District, and Howland Hall has been a welcoming hub for neighborhood life. It has brought people together, hosting groups from rowers to Boy Scouts and providing space for quilting circles, square dances, and community celebrations.

Now, the Church is restoring Howland Hall to its historic role as a vibrant Community Center.

Planned improvements will strengthen accessibility, comfort, and preservation, helping Howland Hall remain a beloved gathering place for events and community life for generations to come.

We Need Your Help to Reach our Fundraising Goal of $300,000

Thanks to the support of the Westport Community Preservation Fund, a local foundation, and architect Kit Wise, The Church is already making preparations to begin Phase One in 2026 by restoring the exterior of Howland Hall and improving accessibility between the various building levels.

Phase Two will focus primarily on the interior, creating an accessible, welcoming community center for lectures, concerts, neighborhood gatherings, and other events.  Some of the things we are looking to fund in Phase Two are:

  • Air Conditioning & HVAC: Keeping Howland Hall comfortable throughout the year.

  • Kitchen Upgrades: a modern fully functioning kitchen for event usage.

  • Audio/Visual Equipment: Enhance presentations, concerts, and community events.

  • Acoustical Tiling: Improved sound quality for speakers and performances.

  • Lighting: Brightening the space for events.

  • Flooring: Restoring the floors

  • Folding Tables & Chairs: For flexible seating and easier storage.
